Draft National Action Plan: your chance to hear,discuss, question, suggest

Public information sessions on the draft plan released by Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet yesterday will be hosted jointly by government and civil society representatives at selected locations around the country over the next week.
The focus is on the details of the proposed commitments in the Plan (e.g. Are there potential implementation issues? Is the level of ambition appropriate?)

I am a member of a networking group of experienced people with specialist knowledge relating to wrongdoing which harm or could harm the public interest. The range of knowledge covers inter alia whistleblowing, transparency and accountability issues in public and private institutions. We have only become aware of this project today. Some members hope to attend the Melbourne session. The documentation implies that the project will terminate upon production of a “plan”. Given the very limited input to the project, that would be very disappointing and potentially misleading. Surely the project to date only starts the discourse about how to resolve the issues of open government.
So the question is will the project be ongoing or will the “plan” be the final statement on this Government’s plan for Open Government. If it is not the final statement – how can we keep this project active and evolving.

This plan- Australia’s first-is not the end. The way the government has gone about this and implementation and outcomes are subject to review by the OGP Independent review Mechanism.
OGP members are required to submit a new plan every two years.
One of the draft commitments is about establishing a permanent government-civil society body to ensure ongoing dialogue.
