Australian Open Government Forum

by Peter Timmins

Twenty seven nominees are listed on the PMC website, a good response to the call for nominations for the Forum. Pleasing too that new voices that have not been heard in the open government discussions to date have stepped forward, keen to take things further from here.
Current Forum membersĀ  also on the Network Steering Committee- Dr Ken Coghill, James Horton and Mark Zirnsak -have renominated as has another Network member Serena Lillywhite.
Two other Network members Kat Szuminska of the OpenAustralia Foundation and Jonathon Hunyor of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre did not renominate nor did James Christian of the NSW Aboriginal Land Council.
Thanks to all prepared to roll up the sleeves, especially to Kat and Jonathon now stepping down from this role after great contributions to the cause.
The selection process for seven positions is underway. The Co-Chairs of the Forum (Barry Sterland, Deputy Secretary PMC and Fiona McLeod SC, Chair of the Accountability Round Table and Transparency International Australia, and Former President of the Law Council of Australia) and an additional eminent person as agreed by the Co-Chairs make recommendations to Government on the appointments.
The reconstituted Forum is expected to meet in mid November.
